Godfrey Z. aka Geeepsy is a French artist who grew up between a father who bred racing horses and a mother who was drama actor and opera singer. He started drawing at a young age and studied photography at age 16, finding inspiration in great photographers such as Cartier-Bresson, David Hamilton and Helmut Newton.

He later focused mainly on photography and worked as a collaborator with two French photographers in Paris, including renowned photographer G. Buthault (Gamma and Cosmo) and moving to Taiwan where he spent about 10 years in the magazine and fashion business as photographer and chief-editor, working on a wide range of subjects and magazines. He worked as a commercial photographer for prestigious magazines, famous brands, artists and celebrities (Toyota, Cogito, CARVEN, US Polo, DIOR, L’Oreal, CARTIER, Makeup Forever, Bluebell, etc.). In parallel he produced artworks on a wide range of subjects, finally focusing on conceptual and fine art nudes. His works have been exhibited mainly in France and Taiwan.

Geeepsy stopped exhibiting in 2010, shying away from the arts for a decade to focus on other challenges. He is now living in China and coming back in full force with many new projects in mind as well as a new painting collection. 2020 is definitely a milestone and promises a lot of surprises for the coming years. In 2019, Geeepsy received the highest distinction for foreigners in China, the Chinese government Friendship award. In 2020, Geeepsy was granted the Chinese green card.

An art lover, Geeepsy also collects artworks from artists like the famous Dali and very anonymous painters alike. He finds his inspiration in creative works from Picasso, Dali or Magritte and admires Chinese artists such as Zhang Daqian and Zhao Wuqi.

Free from the constraints of photography, painting offers him total freedom and infinite horizons for creativity without any boundaries. His work is experimental, abstract, conceptual, powerful and generally meaningful, sometimes wild and provocative. He is very eclectic and finds inspiration mainly in humanity, society and environment, often with an ironic twist on human quirks. Every one of his artworks is a question mark and a challenge to the viewer.

Geeepsy has studied painting under MOMA’s “Abstract Painting” program and Arts & Culture Strategy with Penn University. His recent works focus mainly on abstract, colourful, dynamic and futuristic mixed media.
